Dermatology and Allergies
As with humans, pets can develop uncomfortable and potentially serious disorders of the skin, hair, ears and nails that require specialized medical intervention. Chronic infections of the ears and anal glands are generally a symptom of underlying skin allergies.
The dermatology service at the Pets on Broadway strives to form a bond of trust with you in order to enable us to care for your pet as long as necessary. Our goal is to provide a coordinated team approach to all aspects of your pet’s care. Our practice is dedicated to a combination of the best patient care, client education and personal service. A variety of dermatologic cases are referred to our hospital including:
- Ear infections and disorders
- Skin infections (bacterial and fungal)
- Immune-mediated conditions
- Skin cancer
- Dermal manifestations of endocrine disorders
- Dermal manifestations of metabolic problems
- Congenital and keratinization disorders
These very diverse conditions may present with similar symptoms. Differentiating between these conditions often requires specialized training. Our goal is to perform the necessary diagnostics for each of these conditions to enable us to treat them appropriately. Using the latest in diagnostic equipment, dermatologic testing procedures may include intradermal allergy testing, skin scrapings and biopsy, or video otoscopy; we strive to identify and treat the underlying problem as well as to alleviate the symptoms that may develop.
